My name is Harry W. Mergel and I'm a Licensed Marriage & Family Therapist as well as a Licensed Professional Counselor. The blending of these two licenses provides me the best of both worlds.

I have the training and experience in individual men's counseling through my Professional Counselor's license. I also have the training and experience in couples therapy and marriage counseling through my Marriage & Family degree and license.

I have over 25 years of experience providing men's counseling consultation, and disruptive event management in both the public and private sectors.

I specialize in men's counseling and this has been the focus of my career for my 25 years. I also specialize in couples therapy & marriage counseling as I find that this can play a role in counseling for men.

I look forward to helping you in building a stronger future together!

My Personal Journey

I am a graduate of the Abilene Christian University, Marriage and Family Therapy Program and did my internship at the Marriage and Family Institute.  Since 1994, I have specialized in providing counseling for men, couples therapy, marriage counseling, and family counseling services to men and those they love.

During this time, I have worked with men who have struggled with:

It has been my honor to help men through these challenges. I have a unique ability to help men mitigate their trauma. Trauma is more common than many men may think. Trauma is any experience that overwhelms our ability to cope effectively.

I also found that I have the experience and ability to work with men both individually and with their loved ones to help:

  • Manage personal and work-related stressors,

  • Improve their communication skills,

  • Heal relationships,

  • Better manage self-care, and

  • Increase their work effectiveness and productivity.

I am a recovering Yankee, or so my Texas-born wife tells me, but remain an avid Houston Astros and New York Mets fan.  In that order.

I love to travel – what’s not to like?  I’m a city boy who’s come to appreciate more and more time spent in the great outdoors.  I love discovering new places, connecting with old friends and making new ones, and meeting for coffee, a craft beer, or a great meal.  I’m a sucker for a good book and a great movie.

Self-care has become a priority for me.  I have to practice what I preach.  Muhammad Ali once said, "Service to others is the rent you pay for your room here on earth."  Two true blessings in my life are to be able to serve others and be married to my best friend, the above mentioned and self-described Texas girl.

My Approach to Men's Counseling

  • Have you ever felt the pull to do well at work AND be a good partner, parent, and friend?

  • Does it feel like you are not doing enough at work and in life - like you are just getting by?

  • Trauma and losses have left you depleted and devastated?

  • Emotional triggers and relational difficulties have persisted and not served you?

  • Do you feel like you want to do more than survive but, you’re not sure where to turn?

We’ve all been there and you’re not alone. Your professional endeavors and personal satisfaction don’t have to be at odds.

As a professional counselor and a licensed marriage and family therapist, I understand can face both individual, relationship, and family challenges.

Emotional challenges add many additional, complex layers to life's journey. Depression, panic attacks, social anxiety, ADHD/ADD, anger, trauma, PTSD, are but a few of these I've worked with.

It's not unusual for men struggling with emotional challenges to develop health related difficulties as well. Learning greater stress management skills can often help stave off potential chronic health concerns.

Addressing the broad-spectrum of emotional and physical challenges can also help improve relationship problems at home, at work, and more.

As an experienced specialist in men's therapy, I can help put you at ease, help you redefine your mission, walk beside you through a difficult patch, illuminate the path to your new life, and equip you with the tools and skills to recover, persevere, and thrive.

Just as we expect our medical professionals to use the best practices when treating us and those we love, you should settle for nothing less from your men's counselor.  You deserve research-supported, effective interventions that have been shown to work.

Over the years, I have had great success helping men overcome individual and relational challenges with these treatment modalities:
